Quilters
Written by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek
Opening at HART this Friday, April 16, is the musical Quilters. In the American West, a pioneer woman, Sarah, and six women, who are called her daughters, face frontier life. The musical is presented as a series of short tales and tableaux matched with musical numbers, each presenting an aspect of frontier life or womanhood. The patches or blocks of a quilt show "girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death." The patches are ultimately put together to form one splendid quilt. A favorite of regional theatres, Quilters won a Tony for Best Musical.
Directed by Brynn Baron, the cast features Libby Calhoun, Pamela Rost, Gina Watson-Haley, Kathleen Cafiero, Kira Krueger, Jessica Reed and Amber Hudson. Sheryl Macy serves as music director.

Philadelphia Story
Written by Phillip Barry
Opening soon on the HART stage is the winning comedy The Philadelphia Story. Famous as a movie staring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart, The Philadelphia Story was originally a stage play and written for Katharine Hepburn by her good friend Phillip Barry. Ms. Hepburn, a woman ahead of her time, had the foresight to buy the rights to the play for film adaptation so that it stayed her star vehicle. While the film maintains the integrity of the play, it does change how the story unfolds and removes some of the characters. Audiences will be surprised and pleased at seeing this familiar friend in a new light.
The Philadelphia Story is set in 1939 at the end of the depression and before the US has entered World War II. It tells the story of Tracy Lord, a wealthy socialite about to enter into her second marriage to a man her family is not quite sure about. Her younger sister calls on Tracy’s first husband to help her make Tracy see the light. A scandalous story is about to be printed telling how Tracy’s father, a wealthy business man, is having an affair with a young Broadway dancer. In exchange for not running this story, Tracy’s brother has offered the newspaper editor an exclusive on Tracy’s wedding. The audience watches as Tracy’s world hilariously unravels in the 24 hours leading up to her wedding
As director, Molly McDevitt has enlisted the talents of newcomers and familiar faces to HART. Jenny Val Alstyne is Tracy Lord and Daniel Kroon is her ex-husband, C.K. Dexter Haven. Also featured in the cast are Sydney Chvilicek-McDevitt, Cathy Aicher, Leland Radburn, Madalyn Clemence, Tony Smith, Megan Daaboul, Ethan Kramer, Scott Rushford and Greg Prosser.
The Philadelphia Story opens on Friday, March 5th and runs Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm through March 28 th. HART is located at 185 SE Washington in downtown Hillsboro and is just a block away from the Max station. Tickets are $14 for Adults, $12 for Seniors, $10 for Students and $8 for Children 6 to 10. These performances are not recommended for younger audiences.

Amin soon encounters the Ogre who proves to be a worthy friend and guide. Together they set off looking for the Bird. When they enter the kingdom ruled by King Rashid, the king tells the travelers the story of a Wooden Horse he craves and says he’ll help them find the Bird if Amin can get him the Horse. Forever Plaid
HART continues its 15th season with a production of the nostalgic hit Forever Plaid. The show opens on Friday,
October 16 and runs through November 15th with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2pm. With this 2009-2010 season, HART has a new start time for all of their evening shows of 7:30pm.
Forever Plaid is the story of four young men in a vocal harmony group who tragically lost their lives on their way to their first big show in 1964. Forty-five years later, they are brought back to life to perform the concert they missed. Alternately funny and heartwarming, this delightful musical tells of the importance of living your dreams, and reminds us that life is never wasted when you're doing what you love.
Evoking a simpler time, Forever Plaid features the sweet innocence of the youthful voices of the cast: Erick Valle as Sparky, Frank Strauhal as Francis, Joe Aicher as Jinx, and Leland Radburn as Smudge. Alice Dalrymple is the pianist and Matt Russell is the director behind this fine production. Don’t miss this nostalgic cavalcade of popular tunes from the 50’s and early 60’s!

Bleacher Bums - April 10th - May 3rd, 2009
Bleacher Bums – Director’s Notes
I grew up in the Polish section of Chicago's North Side, just a few miles north of the 'friendly confines' of Wrigley Field, where I spent many a fine summer afternoon watching Ernie Banks and the other lovable losers of my Chicago Cubs try and win one.
The characters in these bleachers are indeed typical of what you'll find in Chicago any summer afternoon when the Cubs are at home. And - yes - they really throw back home run balls hit by the visiting team; and they seriously heckle the opponent’s outfield players. The Wrigley Field bleachers are a way of life…
These performances of Bleacher Bums are dedicated to those Cubs fans everywhere who've been waiting since 1945 for a National League pennant, and since 1908 for a World Series win. And especially they're dedicated to my Mom, the biggest baseball fan I know, and the woman who was nice enough to get me released from St. Viator's Grade School for Opening Day at Wrigley Field. She was at the last National League pennant game played at Wrigley in 1945, and – sadly – she didn't’t make it to see her team make the series,

Private Lives by Noel Coward - February 20 - March 15, 2009
When Amanda and Elyot arrive on honeymoon at a luxurious hotel-casino on the coast of
France, the stage is set for a romantic getaway. There’s only one hitch, they’ve just been married to other people!
The pair divorced five years before, after a tempestuous three-year marriage. Sophisticated and sharp-tongued, they’ve chosen simpler, more accommodating mates the second time around. Once they’ve laid eyes on each other again, however, there’s trouble.
Coward’s breezy 1930 comedy, rather scandalous in its day, starred its playwright, leading lady Gertrude Lawrence, and a young actor named Laurence Olivier. It has been a favorite of theater companies and audiences ever since. Directed by Paula Richmond, the HART production features Carrie Boatwright as
Amanda, David Loftus as Elyot, Lindsey McLean as Sybil, and Tristan Richmond as Victor, with Margie Young as the French maid Louise.
Previous Production : The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams - January 9 - February 1, 2009

This play is an American classic. Amanda Wingfield is a faded, tragic remnant of Southern Gentility who lives in poverty in a dingy St.Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura. Amanda strives to give meaning and direction to her life and the lives of her children, though her methods are ineffective and irritating. Tim is driven nearly to distraction by his mother's nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the unrealistic world of the movies. Laura also lives in her own illusions. She is crippled, and this defect, intensified by her mother's anxiety to see her married, had driven her more and more into herself. At Amanda's urging, Tom invites Jim, a nice young man he knows, to dinner, who may be a suitable husband for Laura. Although Jim and Laura got on well, things don't turn out as hoped. Amanda, Laura and Tom must find a way to cope with their disappointments and move on with their lives.
